Webster To Everton?

Strong rumours are doing the rounds that Andy Webster could be an Everton player by the end of the week.

The Hearts and Scotland centre-half, out of favour at the tail end of last season after a contract dispute, is thought to be at the top of the Toffees’ wanted list as their bid for Wolves centre-half Joleon Lescott remains in the balance.

Webster is a fine defender and if he does move to the Premiership, I think he’ll do well. Everton would probably be a good club for him too, as he’ll have other established Scots there in Davie Weir and the manager Davie Moyes to ease him in. The expectations there would also be quite realistic compared to some other English clubs.

It’s a shame that Hearts and Webster have ended up in the position that they’re in, but if he’s not prepared to commit himself long term, then he’s made his bed and needs to lie in it now. Hearts have signed the likes of Goncalves and Tall knowing that there was a good chance they’d lose Webster, so they are well covered in that area. Indeed, Goncalves looks like a potentially better player.

If Webster does leave, then all the best to him in his club and international career.

hasn’t this rumour been doing the rounds since april? i thought it was made up by some rangers fans to unsettle your run in for 2nd.

Yes I’d say he’s good enough. The rumour before was that he was going to Rangers, which you’re probably right about Scullen. This is the first time I’ve heard of him being linked to Everton.
