Surely Time For Hearts To Drop Obua?

I didn’t actually make it along to the weekend’s game against Falkirk at Tynecastle, but it would appear as though my enforced absence was a bit of a result if the general consensus I’m hearing is anything to go by!

Without wanting to go into any of the detail of a match I didn’t attend though, I’m wondering if, after what would appear to have been yet another disappointing and ineffectual 90 minutes for the player, that it is now about time that David Obua was given a break from first team duty.

For me Obua has been failing to deliver for weeks now, and although it would be fair to say that he is not the only one in that category, I think he has been much more ineffectual than almost anyone else.

I’m not saying that the Ugandan doesn’t have any talent, but his overall contribution to the team recently just has not been up to scratch. Others who are not in particularly great form either, like Michael Stewart and Andy Driver, are at least still putting themselves there to be criticised rather than going into hiding in matches, and when a team is struggling as Hearts are at the moment, they really need everyone to at least be a presence out there on the pitch. I am not convinced that Obua is offering us this right now.

But will Csaba want to drop one of the guys that he clearly appears to rate more than most at the club? Well, surely he must see what everyone else sees and admit that the guy just hasn’t been doing it? In that case at the very least the player needs to be dropped for one match to guage his reaction in training, which may well serve as a shrewd move in order to get him putting in that bit more effort that may be the difference as far as he is concerned. He HAS had good games in the past and has proved that he’s a good player, but I’m struggling to remember when that was to be honest.

Am I being harsh?

Who gets played in his place though?

Driver on the left. Suso on on the right. Throw Novikovas into the mix as well and we don’t need Obua.

By persisting with the same formation, tactics and clearly off-form players (regardless of the opposition or whether we are home or away) I begin to wonder if Laszlo is more preoccupied with proving a point to Romanov than he is with actually winning games.

Tend to agree with you MrH, although I still believe that Obua is a talented player who is worth his place when he’s on form. And surely promising youngsters like Novikovas need a chance to prove themselves, or else they’ll lose their edge ? Csaba has been forced to do it with Craig Thomson – and the young lad has been superb. Novikovas or Witteween simply can’t be any less effective than Nade. By the way, is Obua about to depart for Ugandan duty in the African Nations Cup ?

Really ANY player who is off form should not be expected to retain his place. I wouldn’t be sad if Obua was placed on the bench for a spell.
