Attacking midfielder Jamie Walker has come in for praise from head coach Robbie Neilson for his progress so far this season.

The 21 year old has been in good form in recent months and has shown good signs of development leading the gaffer to tell the Edinburgh News that in his mind he has a ‘massive future’ in the game if he continues at this rate of development and he is arguably our most ‘technically gifted’ player at the club.

Having become a regular since September, and now boasting a goal return of six strikes in his last eight matches, Neilson explained.

‘Jamie has been great. His work rate has improved and his fitness levels have improved. I spoke to him in pre season about where I believe he can get to in football and what he needs to do to get there. I think he has really pushed on this season. He has a kid now and it has given him a focus to really push himself as far as he can go in his carrer.’

Neilson goes on to say about the Academy graduate that he feels he’s most comfortable out wide, or in the No 10 role.

‘He has the ability to excel in any of those positions and is probably technically the best player we have at the club.’

With speculation linking him to interest from Real Betis, the gaffer goes on to say that Walker has impressed Miguel Pallardo as well, and he was speaking to our assistant gaffer Stevie Crawford and Migual was raving about what he was doing in training.

‘Miguel has played 100 La Liga games and has been in Spain for ten years and he believes Jamie is one of the best he has seen when it comes to moving the ball, protecting the ball and putting it in the right areas. He was raving about him. I think if he can continue to work hard and get his fitness levels as high as they can go, then I see him having a massive future in the game.’
