A Derby Day Poem

It seems apt that after a Hearts performance that at times resembled ‘poetry in motion’ on Saturday, super-dedicated Jambo Mr Mark Stones has submitted the following work of art/piece of nonsense (delete where applicable!).

If you think it’s the latter, then please don’t shoot the messenger!

Derby Day Delight

Saturday 28th January, oh what a day !
When the wee team from Leith came to Tynie to play
One recognised striker, no captain at the back
But passion, strength and ability we did not lack
Rudi broke down the left and crossed for Hartley to score
Even then we didnt expect there would be 3 more
But then the ball dropped in the box, and Skacel was there to pounce
Once more, 14,000 Jambos made Tynecastle bounce
Caldwell then tripped Rudi in the box, we all looked at the referee
He pointed to the spot and Hartley lashed it in to make it three
Then Miko hit the deck in his usual theatrical way
And when McCurry showed Smith the red card, you knew this was our day
Mowbray took Riordan off at the break, trying to keep the score to three
But he forgot Rudi was a genius, not a refugee !!
He burst past Whittaker on the left, with what seemed to be ease
And when his cross headed for Elliot, you were thinking oh please!
The youngster made no mistake and suddenly it was four
The travelling fans heading for the exits, thinking Europe no more !
A rubbish, scrappy, lucky goal, unfortunately made it 4-1
But by that time the celebrations had started, the job was done!
Having closed the gap on Celtic, maybe the dream is still on!
But for the Hibees, Champions League football ? well that dream has gone !

Mr Stones you are a genius, Sir!
