Hearts go 3rd in SPL after 3rd successive 1-0 win

It’s hard to believe, but Hearts today won their 3rd successive 1-0 SPL game to jump ahead of Dundee United in 3rd place. The goal hero against Inverness today was Bruno Aguiar who fired home a low shot after 22 minutes.

We’ve talked a lot on this site recently about our goalscoring problems, and there have been times this season when our defence has looked decidedly shaky. So it’s all the more surprising to see Hearts put this run of 1-0 wins together – and the tightness of this league (well, if you discount the Old Firm that is !! ) means that 9 points can catapult a team towards the top of the ‘the pack’. Manager Csaba Laszlo seems shrewd enough to realise that most SPL games are won by a single goal, and so his persistence at cramming 5 players into midfield with a single striker ahead of them looks to be vindicated in terms of results – even though it’s not the prettiest football to watch.

According to web reports, Messrs Nade, Berra, Aguiar and Neilson were our top performers. Indeed, Robbie seems to have made a vital goal-line clearance just before half-time, and Inverness had a penalty claim dismissed by the referee a few minutes later.

Our next match (at home against Falkirk) is another which Hearts ought to be capable of winning, although we know how awkward John Hughes’ team has been in recent years. However, given that the following week sees the start of a more difficult run of games against Rangers (h), Motherwell (a), Celtic (a), Dundee Utd (h), Aberdeen (a) and Hibernian (h), then the Tynecastle game against Falkirk might be our best opportunity to pick up 3 points for a while !!

“Well done” to Csaba and the players !!

p.s. Hearts U-19s recorded a fine 3-0 win over Celtic today at Riccarton – so “well done” to Darren Murray and the players !!

three points are most important for youz but goal differnce could be vital so you’ll have to put the ball in the net more ofter

People always say that though, when was the last time 3rd place was decided on goal difference anyway?

dunno lol! i think we should introduce a rule they have in france a certain amount of money for the team with the most goals scored this would attract more attacking football

All I can say is another three points and I am pleased that we have tightened up in the back, Nielsen seem to have rejuvenated the defence (about time!). Well done and it’s nice to feel positive again…

Great plaudits have been directed towards the form of a resurgent Dundee United side of late and whilst the current Hearts side may not be the most entertaining or free scoring when comparing teams of the past ,, the fact that they currently sit third in the table 1 place above the excellent Taysiders is testament to the sterling work being put in by the coaches at Tyncastle ,, to say nothing of the commitment of the players who are responding positively and achieving results ,, one step forward at a time is a vast improvement on two forward & one back ,, perhaps the acquisition of a quality striker in January will facilitate the vital ingredient missing presently and provide the entertainment value to once again move you closer to the edge of your seats ,, in the meantime points come first ,, always look on the bright side of life ,, your neighbours would bite your hand of for 1 – 0 wins at the minute …!!!!!
