Breaking news tonight is reporting that Valdas Ivanauskas looks likely to vacate the Head Coach job at Tynecastle to assume the role of Director Of Football.
Valdas went away on his second ‘holiday’ of the season recently to escape the ‘pressure’ of the Hearts Head Coaching role. The first time he did this earlier in the season, he was not expected to return to the post, but did so after stand-in Eduard Malofeev’s reign degenerated into farce. However for most people this was always going to be a temporary move.
However it seems that Valdas is likely to remain at the club and take over the role that Malofeev was originally brought in to do. Whether this makes any sense or not, well it’s difficult to tell. Personally I think if he’s not up to the task of being the Head Coach, then the question of ‘is he really cut out to be in an advisory position to the next occupant of hot seat?’ has to be asked. My answer to that would be a resounding ‘no’.
As for successors to Valdas, well I’d be very surprised if it was anyone held in particularly high esteem in this part of the world. It’s more than likely that the new man will be from Lithuania or Russia, with former Lithuanian National Coach Kestutis Latoza already being linked with the post.
I did hear a couple of rumours about Terry Butcher coming to Hearts at last week’s Shareholders’ Dinner, but I have a feeling that those who were telling me were doing so in hope rather than expectation!
Like most Hearts fans I’d imagine, Butcher is someone that I’d have thought was a decent appointment before George Burley got the job. But if he got the position now, I would consider it an absolutely magnificent one, because I simply cannot see us ending up with a man who has any real knowledge of the Scottish game. I really hope I’m wrong though.
Mr H Senior’s response to this news was that he’d ‘rather have Shirley Bassey’ in the job than the ex-manager of Lithuania! Quite where he plucked her name from is anyone’s guess, but I tell you what, if Romanov doesn’t get this appointment right, he’ll be getting the finger from quite a few thousand Jambos……and it won’t be of the gold variety either!

Shirley clearly didn’t know too much about football. She was wrong when she wrote the Airdrieonians theme, Diamonds are forever. Look what happened to them, they went bust and then re-appeared with a slightly different name. Hmmmm, perhaps thats not such a bad idea!!
This could be Vlad’s way of ensuring that HMFC always win the Manager of the Month award. However, I’m not sure if a new manager every month qualifies for this! Shirley Bassey – I always thought that Mr H Snr was more of the gangster rapper type?
When Burley was fired I was dumbstruck for about a fortnight. When Rix was sacked, I was like, “Meh… that’s a shame, but it’s probably a good thing… well done Vlad”. With Valdas… erm… nothing. It just doesn’t matter any more. Wonder what idiotic non-English speaking no-mark we’ll get now? Someone from the Faroes I hear. Hooray!! At last a coach from a recognised world football power!! I’d say “Scandalous!” but it’s already been done I expect, and it’s irrelevant anyway.
Actually I tend to go along with SJ – I just don’t care any more. I can’t honestly see this making any difference at all. Interesting comparison with Airdrie by the way and the way things are going, not completely irrelevant to our situation. I wonder if the new Bond movie will be called “Hearts Are Forever”, with Romanov playing the villain with Valdas and Malofeev as his henchmen?! Burley will be the good guy who always gets sacrificed, with Mikoliunas and Jankauskas being the Bond girls!
Is Romanov importing illegal immigrants and passing them off as the new Hearts manager. Don?t see why he doesn?t just put a tracksuit on with VR on the front!!!
Heard also the new ?manager? presided over a 15 gubbing in a previous post?. The quality of ?manager? is going up!!!

Burley as Bond, surely not. 007 spends most of his time drinking and loves teh ladies…err…..I better check with my lawyers before continuing this thread!
No Burley would be more the friendly sidekick of Bond who often gets killed off early in the film. Probably in a Casino surrounded by a bevy of beauties and magnums of champagne…….I mean…….maybe!
