John Terry…Ouch!

I’m assuming most people saw the John Terry incident in yesterday’s League Cup Final against Arsenal? Sickening wasn’t it? As soon as he hit the deck it looked as though something was seriously wrong and you could instantly tell by the reaction of all the players around him that everyone was seriously concerned. And when I watched the replay it was one of those horrible, shuddery moments, almost like watching that David Busst injury for Coventry a few years ago.

Amazingly, according to the radio this morning, Terry was up and walking around only a few hours later. Quite an unbelievable recovery when you consider the motionless, oxygen-masked clad figure we saw being gingerly escorted off the field earlier in the afternoon.

Hopefully he is indeed ok and there are no repercussions. You’d imagine that Chelsea will be very careful with him and not throw him straight back into the action – you can never be completely sure when it comes to head knocks.

Given the injury problems that Terry has already had this season he’s perhaps due a good break or two. All the best, son.

    Blimey, thanks for that.

    Nice sentiment.

That did not look good at all. I’m a big fan of Muay Thai kickboxing and have a few mates who do it semi-pro and that is supposed to be the most dangerous fighting sport in the world and even in that sport i have never seen someone knocked so severely unconcious from a kick to the head. I hate the man as a player and a person but wouldnt wish that on anyone.

I’d never seen that before either. It actually crossed my mind he might have been dead at first, because he just went straight down and never moved. Frightening.

Watched it, wished I hadn’t. The game was almost incidental after that. Very glad (and amazed) that he was out of hospital within hours to celebrate the win with his team-mates. Good luck to him.

Any ideas why it wasnt a penalty?

  • MrH says:

Wasn’t a penalty because his head was as low as the guy’s boot was high I’d suspect.

  • STONES1874 says:

I would have thought assualt constitutes a spotkick

  • StockportJambo says:

It looked pretty accidental to me… a 50-50 ball albeit between a foot & a head. A penalty would have been harsh IMO.

  • MrH says:

Yes it was completely accidental. The guy that kicked him was distraught afterwards! By the way Terry’s apparently playing at the weekend – unbelievable…….and stupid.

  • Squiddy says:

Intent doesn’t enter into the decision. If it were deliberate he’d be suspended for 6 games. Accidental is just a penalty for a reckless contact above waist height.

  • MrH says:

But who committed the foul Squiddy? Terry was just as guilty of dangerous play as the Arsenal player by putting his head low. As a matter of interest, what did actually get awarded? Was it a bounce ball?
