Predictably, Hearts Beat Celtic!

You could almost have scripted that Hearts would go to Parkhead and get a result tonight after all of the bad press that they’ve had lately, and that is exactly what they were able to do when their 1-0 victory booked a place in the semi-finals of the CIS Cup.

It’s the second time in three years that Hearts have won this fixture at the same stage of the same competition, with the previous occasion featuring two cracking late goals from substitute Andrius Velicka in a 2-0 win.

Tonight it was a more slender margin of victory, and the solitary goal came from a rather er….unconvincing (!) penalty from captain Michael Stewart just before the hour mark at a Parkhead decidedly lacking in atmosphere.

They all count though, and perhaps this might just be the result that cuts Csaba Laszlo and his players a bit of slack after weeks of mediocre performances and results against some of the poorer sides in the SPL.

It just goes to show us once again how poor Celtic and Rangers are though doesn’t it? I mean, Hearts are a pretty disjointed lot at the moment and have been for most of this season, yet they were once again able to get a positive result against one of the Old Firm…..and this follows on from being minutes away from recording a similar result in the corresponding SPL fixture at Parkhead a few weeks ago, not to mention being robbed of a victory over Rangers at Tynecastle not long before that. All this from a side without a recognised striker in their side, too.

The trophies are all there for the taking this season in Scotland, and although I can’t imagine our own team will be anywhere near challenging for the league title, the cups are infinitely winnable, particularly this one now that they’re in the semi-finals.

Funny old game isn’t it……?

Its been a great night for the old Haver. I just saved £80 on my house insurance renewal …. and the Hearts beat Celtic too !! Although our lack of goalscoring ability was still very evident, at least the players looked more lively and “together” than they did on Saturday…. especially Driver. Predictably we needed a fair bit of luck tonight – although imagine the abuse Nade would have got if he had missed the 3 that Samaras missed !! It looked as if McManus was actually astonished that he got a red for the “professional” hack on Driver – quite unbelievable.

Sometimes you need a bit of luck and what we?ve missed out on all season we got back big time tonight. On the blatant McManus red card ? incredible that the ref didn?t give it right away and needed a view from the linesman. Delighted at the result – let?s hope it kick starts our season. All down to Romanov?s visit I shouldn?t wonder (joke).

This was a massive result, so I hope now that we don’t do what we did after the Zagreb result and go backwards, some how I don’t think CSABA will allow the team to do that this time around.
As for Mcmanus, I hope the s.f.a. throw the book at him as you could clealy see in his face that he had ” no intention ” of playing the ball, so in my oppinion that should warrant an automatic 4 game ban….but he plays for one of the uglies, so he’ll get a fine or a 1 game ban, something stupid like that eh????

he already misses 2 games know need to be cheeky.
PS most Celtic fans would probably be delighted if he got a 4 game ban.
